This is happening to me! Stage 4 lipoedema is looming unless I get help.
Nothing to do with eating or exercise.
The help I need is not funded on the NHS.
It’s a pile of **it*.
Lipoedma- a painful fat disease. It grows and grows and is painful.
It's a progressive disease where specialist lymph sparing liposuction offers real relief, improved mobility and better quality of life.
I am stage 3, similar to the middle photo.
It’s painful and debilitating.
I have it in my legs, tummy and arms. It’s gotten much worse due to hormones and menopause.
More importantly the help I need is not funded.
I need help so that I don’t get to stage 4 and have to give up on work/life. The physchological effects are as damaging as the physical ones.
I don’t want to give up work and become dependant on disability benefits and I don’t want to be a burden on my family.
In Germany it costs £18,000
(before loss of earnings) for the 4 surgeries I need.
That’s more than I earn in a year.
Cost in UK is up to £40,000
I’m setting up a Go Fund me page to help with this and to also raise awareness of this debilitating disease and lack of NHS funding.
My consultant in London, and also another in York advised me there’s little point applying for NHS funding. They are unwilling to write a supporting letter as its a waste of their time since its extremely likely to be declined.
I do everything I can to manage this disease including keeping as active as I can, weekly visits to St Margarets Hospice for treatment, daily leg compression and now advised to wear arm compression too.
This is a progressive disease. My Mum was diagnosed with it just 18 months ago, and it's too late for her to have surgery. She has had knee replacements, registered disabled and is immobile. I'd like to avoid that!
Being at stage 3 I have some time for surgery to make a big difference and improve the quality of my life.
I can't do this on my own hence this funding project.
