Aiutateci a dare una possibilità a Kuma - A chance for Kuma

Ciao, mi chiamo Francesco, e scrivo per conto di Kuma.

Tutti voi amate o avete amato un animale. Un animale che è parte della famiglia.

Kuma è questo per me. Non indugerò sulle sue tante qualità, perché le conoscete già: è il cane di famiglia.

Purtroppo domenica notte Kuma è collassato durante la sua passeggiata serale, e non è più stato in grado di rimettersi in piedi, nonostante i suoi incessanti tentativi. L'ho preso in braccio e l'ho portato a casa, dove ha cominciato a vomitare e sbavare copiosamente (cosa che normalmente non fa). I suoi occhi continuavano a zigzagare da destra a sinistra.

è stata una scena terribile e spaventosa, e l'abbiamo portato al pronto soccorso veterinario più vicino.

I medici hanno ipotizzato una sindrome vestibolare: immaginate di essere su una giostra che gira su se stessa a velocità spaventosa e non si ferma mai. Questo causa nausea e perdita dell'equilibrio.

Siamo stati quindi posti di fronte ad un bivio.

Se Kuma mostra segni di miglioramento nei prossimi giorni - circa una settimana - allora potrà guarire e continuare a vivere in maniera dignitosa per il resto dei suoi giorni.

Se invece non migliorerà entro una settimana, vorrà dire che questa sindrome è causata da un tumore al cervello, e dovremo dirci addio.

Non ce la siamo sentita di scegliere subito di metterlo a dormire, perché se si tratta veramente solo di una malattia da cui si può guarire del tutto, sarebbe stato troppo affrettato. Quindi abbiamo deciso di monitorare i suoi miglioramenti in una settimana.

Purtroppo per fare ciò bisogna affidare Kuma a una struttura specializzata, che costa veramente tanto.

La mia famiglia non è facoltosa - siamo persone normali, con lavori normali e tante spese, come tutti. Questo vuol dire che non possiamo permetterci una spesa veterinaria di questo calibro.

Mi appello quindi alla generosità della gente, nella speranza di racimolare almeno una parte delle spese e potere dare una chance a Kuma, prima di arrendersi e dovere dire addio prematuramente.

Hi, my name is Francesco, and I write on Kuma's behalf.

All of you love or have loved a pet. A pet that’s part of the family. That’s what Kuma is for me. I won’t dwell on his many qualities, because you already know them: he’s the family dog.

Sadly on sunday night Kuma has collapsed during his evening walk, and wasn’t able to get up anymore, despite his constant efforts.

I carried him home, where he vomited several times and drooled a lot (he doesn’t usually do that). His eyes kept zigzagging left and right.

It was a terrible, scary scene to behold, and we took him to the nearest ER.

The doctors think it’s a vestibular syndrome: imagine being on a carousel, spinning around at incredible speed and never stopping. This causes nausea and loss of balance.

We have been put in front of two choices.

If Kuma will show signs of recover soon - about a week - then he can heal and keep living with dignity for the rest of his days.

If he doesn’t get better within a week, then this syndrome may be caused by a brain tumor, and that would be farewell.

We couldn’t bring ourselves to immediately put him to sleep, because if it really is just a disease he could completely recover from, then it would be too rushed of a decision. So we decided to monitor his progress throughout a week.

Sadly, in order to do so, we have to entrust him to the care of a specialized facility, which is very expensive.

My family isn’t rich - we are normal people, with normal jobs and a lot of expenses, like everyone. This means we cannot afford veterinary expenses of this caliber.

I therefore appeal to the generosity of the people, in the hope of scraping together at least part of the expenses and being able to give Kuma a chance before giving up and having to say goodbye prematurely.
