Donald Barrer and family

Hello Family and Friends of Donald Barrer

I’m reaching out to you to ask for help for the family of Donald Barrer. Donald passed away the day after Christmas after over a week in the Critical Care Unit at Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover NH.

As many of you know, on Dec. 11th Don suffered a  heart attack and stroke while at home with his wife Cindy and daughter Sarah.  They immediately performed CPR and called the EMTs, who used a defibrillator to keep his heart beating.  Don spent about ten days in the hospital where he began to respond to his family and caregivers.  Cindy did all she could to arrange for herself and the children to see him when it was allowed.  She arranged for a phone to be set up so she and the family could talk and sing to him all day long.

Even though he was unable to speak they know that he knew they were there.  Cindy even made sure the Patriots game was on for him cuz he loved watching football. They are  grateful for those days that they were able to reach out and tell him how much they love him. The day after Christmas Don suffered another heart attack that he was unable to survive.

It has been a shock for Cindy and his entire family.  Don has family in Oregon and Illinois who have kept  tabs on his condition.  Don has always been the strong one—the one who was there for everyone else. He was the Dad, the Grandpa, the friend, brother, the fix-it guy who was always willing to solve a problem or lend a helping hand.

Many of you are good friends of the Barrer family and many just know Don and have enjoyed his friendly visits and helping hand over the years.  Joe and I have known Don and Cindy for 40 years since we all lived in Oregon and were starting out building houses.  Don was always happy to help everyone with anything. His many friends all over New Hampshire remember him for his stories, his cheery presence and his wonderful chuckle.

Cindy and Don have four children, the pride and joy of their lives: Carissa, Catrina, Chris, and Sarah. And they have 7 grandchildren.  Don’s family was the center of his life.  He was so proud of them and was always sharing stories of their accomplishments. They will miss him so much.

Because Don hadn’t been well in many months and had even spent several days in the hospital in November, the bills have been mounting—medical bills as well as the mortgage, living expenses, real estate taxes, and many other bills. The situation is getting pretty serious as several house payments were missed due to his illness as well as utility bills and other medical and insurance bills.  We really want to make sure Cindy can keep the house.   Also, in 2018 Sarah started college.  Don was very proud of her and wanted to make sure she could continue and graduate.

We want to be there for Don’s family and know that many of you feel the same way. It was Don’s strongest hope that they could keep their Somersworth home and we would very much like to make that possible. Any donation you can make will go directly to Cindy to help with their expenses. Any amount you can spare, no matter how small, can make a difference and would be sincerely appreciated.

If I can answer any questions at all please feel free to contact me through this site.  I will try to let you know how things are going with Cindy and the family.   Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.  Sending you all love and health and wishes for brighter days ahead!
