Donate a Book In Honor of an Amazing Woman
Donation protected
In honor of the release of my new book, When Women Run the World Sh*t Gets Done, I’m donating copies to the Women’s Journey Foundation, an amazing non-profit in Southern California, and to WISEPlace, a shelter that cares for women in need, empowering them and instilling “a renewed sense of hope.”
The Backstory
Throughout the years, people have asked me what my inspiration has been for my series of books that celebrate the power of women. Quite simply, they all honor my mom.
When my brother, Gary, was born he needed immediate surgery to save his life. However, the doctors advised my parents against the procedure, saying, “He’ll ruin your lives. He’ll ruin your daughters’ lives. You can still have more children. You should let him die.”
Although normally a shy person, my mom raised her voice and said to them, “This is my child. He’s living and he’s breathing right now. And I’m going to do whatever I can to give him the best life possible.” Over the last 44 years, I have witnessed the power of women through her tenacity of not giving up or in, and of championing someone who could not do so himself.
So, it’s in honor of my mom, in memory of my grandmothers and dear friends and family members no longer with me, and in the spirit of women helping women – I’m donating books in their name to help women in need.
We’ve all had low points in our lives, and so often it can be a good friend or a good book that gives us courage and inspiration, and reminds us that we’re not alone, that the situation is temporary, and that we will get through it. And that ultimately, we are powerful and strong.
How can you help uplift these women?
For every $10 contribution: A copy of my book will be donated in a woman’s name of your choosing. Give as much as you can to donate as many books as you can in honor or memory of all the amazing women in your life. After donating, comment with the name(s) of the women you're donating in honor or memory of. I'll also reach out to thank you and confirm the names in case you're not able to leave a comment.
Give $100: You’ll also receive a signed copy of When Women Run the World Sh*t Gets Done, available with the second printing in May.
Give $250 or more: You’ll receive a signed copy of When Women Run the World Sh*t Gets Done, plus a 30-minute video call with me where we can chat about writing and publishing, we can have a group discussion about women empowerment, or I can speak to your book club or social group.
For all donations: The women who you’re donating a book(s) in honor or memory of will have their name included in a commemorative letter to the charities. I will also email you a certificate you can fill out and give to the special women in your life, letting them know about your donation in their name.
For every book donated, I'll also donate a copy.
Help me make this donation as large as can be and lift up as many women as possible. As my mom has shown me through the years, when women come together – dare I say, when we run the world … amazing sh*t gets done!
And if you’re a business and lifting up women is a part of your culture, contact me about corporate donations.

About When Women Run the World Sh*t Gets Done: Packed with stories of ordinary women doing extraordinary things, this book is a must-have for any woman who has ever dreamt of a better world. The book is full of powerful, courageous women who are getting vitally important sh*t done. Readers will dive into this empowering narrative and be inspired by what one reviewer has called a “compelling tour de force of sisterhood.”
About Me: I’m an author of three books that celebrate the power of women, which is a topic I love to write and speak about. My books have been reviewed or featured in the Sydney Morning Herald, New Zealand Woman’s Weekly, the Huffington Post, Library Journal (Starred Review), Sierra magazine, the Midwest Book Review, and Women’s Radio News, among others. I’m always inspired by the many amazing women I meet who enrich the lives of so many. You can follow me at @shellyrachanow on Twitter, @shelly.rachanow on Instagram, and Shelly Rachanow on Facebook .
