Coach bus to shuttle students to SFU during strike
Donation protected
Final Update:
As I've been asked about what I'm doing with the GoFundMe.
Because the strike isn't happening. As I previously promised, the proceeds from the GoFundMe with still be going to Unifor. I've reached out to them and we are currently discussing how they will be accepting the donation. If that is not possible then I will be refunding all donors.
If you previously donated and would prefer a refund, then please contact me and I can make arrangements.
Thank you for all your support and donations.
Update:
The transit strike is now cancelled and luckily students are able to get on the mountain. Therefore a bus is not needed now, all the donations went to the downpayment of the bus with me incurring the rest of the downpayment personally. Thank you for all your support helping students!
Due to the transit strike affecting buses up Burnaby Mountain. Students at SFU are unable to get to class, complete midterms and attend presentations. The SFU student population has shown that in times such as these we are united with many students offering to carpool up and down the mountain. Unfortunately due to the size of student population it is not possible to provide all students will this opportunity. Originally, I proposed the idea of hiring a private charter company that could shuttle 50 students up at a time for a similar cost as transit, around 3.50 which would chip in to the cost of the bus rental. If the expenses of the charter rental were covered the rest of the proceeds would go towards Unifor to support the workers who are currently on strike. Unfortunately the charter rental must be paid upfront and I do not have the funds to make that payment by myself. I'm hoping for SFU alumni's, Students, and anyone who this impacts, if they could pitch in whether $2, $5, any donation counts to cover the expenses of the bus, as otherwise we not able to make this a reality.
The coach would be shuttling students from a nearby skytrain to sfu and back down in order provide students the opportunity to attend their classes.
The bus would run on the 27th to 29th between peak school hours
7:30am-10:00am and 4:00pm-6:00pm
