Sarah is a 26 year-old remaining steadfast living in a tent with her five family members in Mawasi, Khan Younis. Before the war, Sarah was studying public relations and media at University, but has not been able to finish her studies. She wanted to be a journalist but has lost her passion since the beginning of the war on Gaza. She still photographs the most beautiful scenes in her area to share with the world. The home that Sarah’s family lived in had been destroyed in Israeli carpet bombing campaigns. Many members of her family and friends have been martyred since October 7th.
I am a student and childcare worker located in Wisconsin. I have been speaking with Sarah since August 2024 and with her brother since June 2024. Sarah is collecting money for her family to access clean water, food, and a new tent, since theirs is broken and not suitable for winter. All the money raised for Sarah is sent directly to her PayPay. Her Instagram page has been taken down many times since she started her account but she continues to fight the suppression of Meta. If her account is taken down you can follow me on Instagram to stay updated on Sarah @daniellecsb25. We chat via Whatsapp if her account gets taken down.
With the Rafah Border Crossing being closed in May 2024, funds will be used to support Sarah’s family in the Mawasi area near Al-Aqsa University. Winter clothes are not currently available, but they will be very unaffordable. Detergent costs around $100, and clean water and food also cost money. She needs about $100 a week to access at least food and water. The rainy season has already started and tents are not in any shape to protect and shelter people from the rain. A new tent will cost anywhere from $600-1.2k. These prices are not sustainable for anyone, given that no one is making an income in Gaza currently.
Sarah, like many of us, has to deal with menstruation and the prices that come with it. Many women in Gaza have had to use tent scraps and unclean cloth. For one person, pads cost around $6. Sarah also has Irritable Bowel Syndrome and needs treatment. She needs eye drops for everyday for allergies as well. Medicine costs are the highest of all and medicine itself is often difficult to find. Please help Sarah with these expenses.
Once the Rafah Crossing reopens, funds will be used to evacuate Sarah and her family. For now, our goal is $20k, but this may change once we find out the cost of evacuation to Egypt, which previously had been $5k/child and $10k/adult. Our goal may also fluctuate based on Sarah and her family’s survival needs and any associated costs.
Sarah dreams to travel outside of Gaza for the first time, to complete her education. Sarah hopes to travel to Germany some day and experience the cold weather she loves so much. Let’s help her accomplish her dreams and support her family during this unimaginable suffering.
Sarah and I invite you to kindly donate any amount large or small, and to follow our updates. With your support, we can bring some peace and comfort to Sarah’s family. You can follow Sarah on Instagram @sarastory.7 and @sarah.story7.
