DONATE FOR SCHOLARS AT RISK - Mountain Marathon

On August 24th, I‘ll be running the Idre Mountain Marathon and would like to take this opportunity to collect donations for Scholars at Risk.

What for?

Scholars at Risk support threatened scholars and promotes academic freedom and inclusiveness. Some are threatened personally; others leave their homes due to autocratic regimes, war, or limited access to research resources.

Why now?

We live in crises-ridden times. Our colleagues need our help. While some threats appear particular urgent, others risk to be forgotten. This is to raise awareness for the precarious situations many scholars are facing and give financial support.

How much?

I’m connecting this call to a marathon as I hope this increases donations. The marathon is 45km. This allows for an ambitious funding goal of 4500€. Let‘s see what happens. ANY DONATION IS WELCOME.

Why a mountain marathon?

I wanted to do this run anyway (see https://idrefjallmaraton.se/en/, it‘s gonna be fun!). Moreover, it‘s gonna be in my last days of my PhD-contract in Sweden- an ideal opportunity for me to be thankful for the excellent research conditions I had!

Does your donation reach SAR?

The money will reach SAR - promised! I‘ll upload a payment proof after the run. I did a similar crowdfunding in 2022 (see here: https://lucaversteegen.com/home/cycling-to-ispp-crowdfunding/?amp=1) and the money got in safely.

What if the runner doesn’t reach his destination?

I‘m training hard to make this work. Your support and donation will make me get over the mountains. I‘ll be sharing pictures here.
