This month the ISPP community lost an intelligent, beautiful, kind, soon-to-be psychologist, PsyD student Arely Soriano-Lopez.
Arely started the PsyD program in the fall of 2018 and persevered through the challenges of the Argosy closure and the move to National Louis University. She had finished all of her doctoral coursework, passed all of her practicum training and the doctoral capstones, and completed data collection for her dissertation – a study on internet gaming. Arely’s dissertation studies how motivations for gaming impact Internet Gaming Disorder. On July 31st, Arely started her doctoral internship – the final year of full-time clinical training before earning her degree. Arely had matched with Jordan Valley Community Health, an APA-accredited internship site in Springfield, Missouri. After so much hard work, dedication, and perseverance toward her degree, Arely was almost finished, and she had a bright future ahead of her.
Arely was excited for the future. She had her whole life planned out. She was driven and dedicated to helping others. She was loved by everyone she met, and always saw the best in people.
Our community was shocked and deeply saddened to learn that Arely died of unknown causes just the day after starting her predoctoral internship. Her family is understandably devastated by her unexpected death; she was taken too soon. Her passing is a loss for her family, friends, ISPP community, and all the people she would have helped as a psychologist.
Our ISPP Community wishes to honor Arely by starting this GoFundMe to support her family. Arely’s family faces unexpected costs for her funeral, memorial, and afterlife planning. We hope you will be able to contribute, as you are able, to provide a show of care to help her family as the most appropriate way to honor Arely.
