We thought long and hard about setting this up, deciding whether this was the right thing to do. After seeing all of the support and messages we received we thought we would give people the opportunity to contribute however they wish to his funeral and memorial service. We want to give Chris the memorial he deserves to show the world how much his hard work and dedication was appreciated and how much he will be remembered.
Chris’s story:
On the 4th March 2024 the world became a darker place. We received the devastating news that Christopher Hunter aka “Hunter” suddenly passed away, age 35, from a cardiac arrest.
Chris is and always will be a beloved son, brother, friend and dedicated teacher. The impact Chris has had on the people around him will be felt for generations to come, he will never be forgotten, only honored.
To us, as a family, Chris was strong, passionate, outgoing, kind- just a few of his best traits. He was dedicated to watching over his brother and sisters. Always one to call it how it is, he kept us in line and comforted us all, in his own way, by showing us he was there for us. He was planning a trip to Asia and aiming to become Headteacher, he still had so much left to achieve, he was taken way too soon.
He dedicated his last years of his life to helping young people improve themselves and achieve their dreams. The impact of our loss spans much wider than us as family and friends, it has devastated so many lives, lives he was a part of making a positive difference to.
Chris secured his first teaching job in 2013, he was so passionate about teaching students who others would often struggle with and in his first year of teaching his year 11 group, he made the best progress. It was clear Chris had a passion for the pastoral element of education and he rapidly secured promotions to head of year, he took a year group from year 8 to year 11…..until covid struck, but even during this time, he made sure he kept in touch with his students, his weekly youtube assembly is something that is still spoken about by them. It was clear Chris was going onto greater things. Chris moved to Wilsthorpe as Assistant Headteacher, which he absolutely loved and his loss has impacted so many from all his schools.
We wanted to take this moment to share just one of the stories we have received that shows the positive impact Chris has had:
"My daughter has autism and 'Mr Hunter' had really grown to be someone she trusted and confided in at Wilsthorpe, which takes a lot, he really got her. She will really miss him, and his support. Sorely missed by all."
Chris will be missed by all members of the school community, he had an incredible sense of humour, and an ability to talk to and engage with everyone, he is utterly irreplaceable, and we all feel privileged to have worked with him.
Outside of his school life, Chris was a dedicated Forest fan. What Forest meant to Hunter can be put simply into one word; Love. A Saturday 3 pm kick-off was his favourite. He had his match day routine perfected. It was an 11 am hair and beard trim, followed by a pint in town then off to Larwood or Trent Nav where the fun really started. So many good times, so many memories and no one was safe when it came to his wit.
He’d get the odd telling off when he stepped out of line but we wouldn’t have had him any other way. He would give that smile with a cheeky look in his eyes and everyone was in love with him again. Now to the game itself, not sure how much of it he really watched. He spent most of the game chewing the ear off everyone around him.
He was truly one of kind and the city ground isn’t going to be the same anymore.
