Donate school lunch to Tanzanian children
Donation protected
During our volunteer work in august 2022, we visited together with the local NGO "Twiga Vision" the primary school “Themi ya simba”, which is located in the rural area of Arusha, Tanzania.
Many of the families in the surrounding area can only afford one or two meals per day, mostly just “Ugali” – maize flour porridge. Some of the children have to walk up to 2 hours to get to school. Without breakfast or lunch, they can hardly concentrate and often skip school because of hunger.
Even despite this, some children can not go to school anyway. Instead, they have to work and look after the families’ cattle. Early forced marriage and teenage pregnancy is common and can lead to severe health & social risks for the woman and her child.
In addition to their already tough living conditions, the families suffer from severe drought, which causes crop failures, dying livestock and strong increase in food prices.
The provision of regular school meals has multiple benefits, including:
- combating hunger & malnutrition
- incentive for parents to send their children to school
- increase in concentration ability & learning outcome
- reducing school dropout rates
- supporting local farmers
Education is key to social development and economic growth, including lower rate of poverty, malnutrition, child labour and early pregnancies.
It needs 2450 € per school semester (5 months) to provide lunch for all 350 children.
With a donation of 7 €, you can support one child for a whole school semester!
Together with the Organisation "Siret Volunteers & Meditrips" we will ensure, that this program is ran properly and is sustainable.
Thank you so much in advance for your help, it will make a big difference to the children there.
