Asheville Buncombe Adult Soccer Association: Helene and Spring 2025
Women's Adult Soccer in Asheville, NC before Helene
Our adult soccer community:
This GoFundMe is organized by the board of directors of ABASA (Asheville Buncombe Adult Soccer Association).
ABASA lost the fields primarily used by our league (public park fields we used for 90% of our play) to flooding due to Hurricane Helene. The John B. Lewis Soccer Complex in Swannanoa, NC, is sitting under a thick layer of mud and debris. We are looking to secure funds for field accessibility and development. This will definitely mean renting fields for the spring 2025 season, possibly contributing to the restoration of the mud-covered John B. Lewis Complex, or -- with enough donations -- purchasing and developing (lighting and turfing) Asheville land to play on in future years.
Many of our players lost homes and businesses. We were unable to finish out our fall season, but we'd like to be able to offer soccer as soon as possible. It's going to be integral to the physical and mental health of our community.
They say about football, "Of all of the unimportant things, football is the most important" (Pope John Paul II). I think that is especially true now.
ABASA is a lapsed 501(c)6 actively working towards reinstatement as a nonprofit.
