Donate to Baby Kaycen Rector’s Memorial

On Wednesday October 16th 2024, at 23+ weeks pregnant, Ashlyn wasn’t feeling well and started having contractions. She went to the hospital for observation and was admitted. At 433pm, Kaycen Michael Jay Rector made his entry into this world at 1.5 pounds and 12.99 inches long.

Born at just over 23 weeks gestation, Kaycen was rushed from Madison, Indiana to a children’s hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He has been under the fantastic care of the medical staff at Norton’s since Wednesday evening.

He is a very strong baby boy with a great heartbeat and progressing lungs, but he is in critical condition due to level 3-4 brain bleeds on both the right and left sides. In addition to all of the tests and scans, Kaycen has received 4 blood transfusions. The team at Norton’s is working tirelessly to help this sweet baby.

It is quite likely that Kaycen has severe brain damage and will most likely have Cerebral Palsy as well as other health and developmental issues. The severity of his condition(s) will not be known for quite some time.

Due to the severity of Kaycen’s medical issues and prognosis, it is not known when Ashlyn will be able to return to work. In addition to his very unexpected arrival, Ashlyn had just started a new job on Monday! This all leaves so much unknown for the foreseeable future.

We are kindly requesting donations to help Ashlyn with living costs and to help with any medical expenses that will be needed to accommodate Kaycen’s care.
