Donate to Aid Stroke Recovery Expenses

On Monday night (4 November 2024), after having multiple problematic symptoms for several days, I finally called an ambulance fearing I had had a stroke. I’m glad I did, because I didn’t just have.a stroke. In my typical over-achiever fashion, I had a “few” “small” ones. After being pumped full of medications to make me comfortable, my first few thoughts included “I will never recover from this financially” and “oh god how long will I be unable to work?”
Mercifully, I have Medicaid to cover the medical side of things—which, given that this is America in 2024, is nothing short of a miracle. What continues to worry me, though, are the other costs: food, rent, bills, and so forth. No work of course means no pay. Which on the suggestion of my friends online led me here.
So I’m asking for help covering expenses for the next couple months while I continue to recover. The biggest two are my rent (about $300 a month) and my phone bill ($150 a month). I’ll also have to switch to having groceries and supplies delivered, as I won’t be able to do much shopping for myself for a while. I have no way to know how much I’ll actually need to survive, so the goal you see is just an estimate.
The night before the election, I was admitted to the hospital here in Baton Rouge. A ct scan and mri revealed the strokes, and I spent a week laid up in a bed before they declared me fit for transfer to a rehab facility—which is where I’m writing this campaign from. I continue to defy expectations here though, and that’s a damned good thing. I’m even set to be discharged home this coming Monday, after which I will be taking it nice and slow for a while.
Thank you for reading all this. I hope to post updates as I go along the recovery process.
