Alas de Agua's Permanent Art Space

We are Alas de Agua Art Collective. We are a grassroots arts organization in the Southside of Santa Fe. We service people of color, immigrants, queer folk, native, black folks and all walks of life. We are the only BIPOC led community arts space located on the Southside of Santa fe. We want that reality to dramatically change over the next 10 years. We want to continue to foster BIPOC Arts leadership. Barrio Art School is our BIPOC summer program in its 3rd year. We have been intentionally servicing the Southside since 2017, through local and national level funders. We are eternally grateful for all the support from the Kindle Project, Philadelphia Mural Arts, Andrus Visionary Grant, NM Arts, L.P. Brown Foundation, Ruth Foundation, Art is the Solution City Grant and the generosity of so many community donors.

During these times of uncertainty we know that having land with water rights is essential for our organization to have a sustainable future. We hope to raise enough funds by January 6th to make a down payment on a piece of land that is at least 5 acres, hopefully more acreage. If someone wishes to donate a piece of land that is on the Southside that helps us service this population as we have been servicing intentionally with community arts, poetry, farming and creative healing modalities please reach out to us. We feel it's super imperative that we have a permanent home to continue to do the work for generations to come. We want the space to not only have portable studios and inexpensive art making space, but also have space to have a 2 acre farm with water rights, ceremonial grounds and sweat lodge grounds. There are other models in New Mexico that we are inspired by and wish to foster spaces that allow us to continue to heal on our own terms. We know that there are certain political realities that might affect us as an organization that services people of color in these times and wish to create space for all walks of life to come, gather, be creative and heal. The first 5,000 will go towards the rent of our current warehouse art studio and gallery. We have already had a generous donation of 5,000 that covers our next 6 months of rent. The second 5,000 will go towards our Barrio Art School and future programming. The remaining 90,000 that we are hoping to raise will go towards purchasing a land base for community use. We are looking at local models like La Placita Institute in Alburquerque, Warehouse 21, Warehouse 505, Full Circle Farm which we helped initiate and will continue to collaborate with, Northern Youth Project that also needs a permanent land base.

These are all places that we love and admire and would also ask you to consider donating to. We need more spaces like this to exist here and everywhere. We believe in the abundance that is the mother earth and know that we can reach our preliminary goals to foster a community arts space for healing through the arts and beyond.

Our current fiscal sponsor is Partners in Education, their Federal I.D. number is 85-0392417. You can also make donations directly to us through Partners in Education.

If you have a land base that you wish to donate for this purpose. Please contact us directly. To learn more about the history of Alas de Agua Art Collective please visit our website www.alasdeagua.com
