A little over a month ago, our brother William (Bill) was not feeling well and was taken to the ER at Los Alamitos Hospital. Imaging was done and a 7 cm mass was discovered on his pancreas. A biopsy was done at that time, but the results came back as inconclusive - this gave us all hope.

The following weeks presented one obstacle after another, and when his pancreatic cancer was officially confirmed and chemotherapy was legally and medically an option, Bill was in a further-weakened state making the option of chemo a risky one. He understood this, however, and his decision was bravely to start chemo as the only option to prolong his life, which he did on the evening of July 31st.

Bill, as all friends know, was a brilliant man, and wanted to be kept in the loop on every decision made with regard to his care - and with each step throughout this 6-week process. He made every major decision for his care, and he was always in charge. We were only there to love and support him through all of it.

The chemo ran for 48 hours, and while there was some improvement in liver enzymes, other blood work continued to show signs of organ failure. On the one-year anniversary of losing his wife Cherie, Bill was moved to ICU when it became more obvious he was suffering, and not likely going to pull through. In his waning moments of lucidity, Bill made the final decision to initiate end-of-life comfort care. He passed away a few hours later.

We are all beyond devastated, and none more so than his daughter, Alex, who has lost both her mother and her father just one year apart. Alex remained at her father's side throughout the entire process - never leaving his bedside for any length of time. She is a strong, loving young lady, and a fighter.

Unfortunately, in the last few days of Bill's life, Alex's employer underwent a restructuring and she was laid off last week after exhausting her PTO, taking the time needed to care for her dad.

This GoFundMe is for the direct benefit of Alex, to provide her with a solid and loving foundation for the future.

Any donation is greatly appreciated, and if you are unable to donate we understand, and would greatly appreciate it if you would consider sharing the page with others who knew William, and please keep us all in your prayers
