Help Brent Fight A Hard Battle: Support Needed
Donation protected
I'm Brent's wife, and he would be so upset that I'm doing this, but the stress of the situation can cause his diseases to flare, and it will be a hard one to get him through. So I’m doing what I have to do. Since about 2021 and his last days of fighting through work where it became unsafe for him to be at the mine, he has lost so much weight and is down to 180 pounds. (25 years ago, that's about roughly what he weighed).
He found out he has a torn hip labrum, a hip impingement, and is still battling the constant pain from Psoriatic Arthritis.
We have tapped out all credit cards, personal loans, etc. Disability is doing what disability does, denied him twice, and thankfully we found an attorney to handle the case based on if he gets approved. That is still 10-12 months out for just the hearing phase. We are living in a motorhome, and I'm picking up as much slack as possible while our son helps as well — sticking around to help his Dad when I'm trying to make some money.
We live as frugally as possible, applying for any benefits we can (of course, this takes months to go through to get approved), utilizing food banks, etc. Just his medications alone cost thousands of dollars, which we cannot afford at the moment (and also could cause him to have a flare at any moment if not kept up with), and mine run a couple hundred monthly.
My phone is the only phone currently we pay for service on (with prepaid), so unfortunately, we can't leave him alone for too long without being able to call in case of emergencies.
This has been his hardest battle next to the grief of losing his Dad, Leonard. Brent has worked every day since I met him and loved his job. He loved doing new things and helping all over the mine. Now he can't work, and his body has turned against him. Whenever we get a glimmer of hope (surgery for his hip), it's quickly diminished because they couldn't go through with the surgery because his diabetes (his A1C) wasn't where the doctors wanted it to be. He misses working and misses taking care of me.
This is all I know to do to alleviate some stress. I can get insurance back on our car, get his phone working so we are not constantly worried about one another, and get him back on insulin so that we can work to get his A1C down and when we get Medicaid get surgery done. And maybe it'll help him feel like he's done something to help us. (Even though he has since the day I met him).
Side by side image of before he became sick to about 1.5 years ago (he’s lost even more weight since). You’d hardly recognize him. And the progress of his skin finally healing after over a year of poor management (and intense, unnecessary treatments) by an Alaska Rheumatologist.
Thank you, anything absolutely does help and I am beyond appreciative of you’ve even read this. If you’d like to talk to Brent just let me know and I can get you my number.
