QA’s beloved USPS mail carrier, Calvin Clark, is retiring at the end of the day on Dec. 23rd. Calvin has delivered the mail here on Queen Anne hill since 1985. Before joining the USPS, Calvin served our country in the Marine Corps for six years. A true servant of the country.
The consensus on the hill is that Calvin is the best! There are many ways people showed Calvin how much they appreciate his work. One family we know has a lot of stairs leading up to their house. They put a gate in their fence (with a plaque on it that said “Calvin’s Gate”), so he could go directly to the house next door instead of using all the stairs while working his route.
Calvin and his wife Paula live in Bonney Lake and have been married for 19 years; between them, they have five children. He has endured knee, neck and hip surgeries during his service with USPS and certainly looking forward to rest. He says it’s possible that they might move closer to the ocean or travel in the future…..anything but work!
This fundraiser is an opportunity for the QA community to show our appreciation for Calvin’s diligence in doing his job for our community and our country with a smile on his face and joy in his voice. Let’s help make Calvin’s retirement just a bit more memorable.
If you would like to get something more personal to Calvin, you can mail or drop it off at Queen Anne Dispatch, Attn. Calvin Clark, 2212 Queen Anne Avenue North, Seattle, WA 98109.
“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” (These words are chiseled in gray granite over the entrance to the New York City Post Office).
