I'm writing on behalf of Craig "CJ" Coyle, to most known as a teacher at Wilson Area High School for 31 years and a drummer with several area bands for most of his life. I am his wife Sherry Coyle and Craig has had the worse year anyone could have. In the beginning of the summer he had a major heart attack. He could not have open heart surgery because his condition was so bad they didn't think he would make it. Craig had several stents put in and a pacemaker. After recuperating at a nursing home he came back home. Then one night I heard a crash and he was on the floor, blood running from his head. I called the ambulance and he was stitched up and had another stay in a rehab. Craig lost 2 pints of blood due to the fact he was on blood thinners for his heart. He had one more fall a few weeks later. Finally he was able to have his cataract surgery...that failed and he had to have it redone, he still cant see well and he has one more eye to go.
Fall came and he was feeling pretty good, he was even blowing leaves off of the patio. He said to me "Sherry its getting late lets get some hoagies and order from Grub Hub. I thought that was a good idea and ordered them. I saw on my phone that it said they were delivered...but not to us.
Craig said maybe they left them on the patio, he went out to see...I waited...he never came back. I had just had surgery on my legs so I got my crutches and went to looks for him. I couldn't see him, but I heard a faint "Call 911". Here the grub hub driver left them next door up a flight of steps...Craig got them and on the way down the bag started to rip...he tried to grab it and fell off the steps, his head landing into the door of a SUV parked in the driveway. He was bleeding so bad. I called the ambulance and the immediately put a neck brace on.
When he got to the emergency room he was rushed in and had a broken neck, fractured nose, fracture on his pelvis, concussion and spinal cord damage. he could not move and had no control of anything from the waist down. His bowels and bladder did not work, he could not walk. His hands were almost useless from severe arthritis.
He was in Good Shepard rehab hospital for weeks...but not much could be done. His mind is still good and he spends his days watching the news as always. He has been moved to Gracedale now and that is where he will most likely remain. The doctors don't see much hope with his walking again or his bowels and bladder working. He is what's is referred to as Total Assist.
Luckily I purchased Long Term Healthcare 20 years ago, but the problem is it costs 11470.00 for the nursing home a month the LTC only covers 10,000.00. The rest and any hospital bills, meds, equipment all come out of our SS. we were just making it before the accident. I have a stack of bills from different hospitals and several ambulance trips to pay and also the balance for his nursing home each month. We do not own a house anymore so I still have to pay rent, utilities, car payment etc.
This is the hardest thing we have ever had to do, we are not comfortable asking for money but we are in a mess. Thank you all in advance and please say a prayer for Craig.
