Help Elizabeth & Adrienne Fund a Podcast!

Once there was a pandemic and two middle-aged besties were very bored. A duo known for their epic costume parties, long-distance cycling adventures, live storytelling and comedy, Adrienne and Elizabeth were missing fun and laughter. Looking for something to do, Adrienne eBay’d a vintage set of Sweet Valley High novels and decided to record her adult reactions for a podcast. When she mentioned the idea to Elizabeth, WOKEFIELD was born.
Despite growing up in very different households, Sweet Valley High was a cultural touchstone for both women. From their very first conversation, it was clear they took very different messages from the books and that—kinda unbelievably—Sweet Valley High had impacted how they viewed themselves as women in the world. When WOKEFIELD took off, Adrienne and Elizabeth decided to expand season two’s focus to include formative films from the 80s and 90s. Suddenly they found themselves experiencing the distinct sadness of loving a film like Sixteen Candles and then finding out it’s actually very rapey!
Adrienne and Elizabeth learned a lot as they made WOKEFIELD, but one thing that stuck out is that neither of them felt especially supported as kids, teens, or young women. It’s no surprise then that both women barrelled through life with hardcore take-care-of-it-yourself attitudes, never asking for help or pausing to think that perhaps there could be a community of people who wanted to support them. They created, produced, and funded WOKEFIELD on their own, but now they need help to keep going!
Adrienne and Elizabeth want to move the podcast to the next level. What does that look like? For one, a brand new name that more fully encapsulates what the show is about and where it’s headed. DON’T RUIN THIS FOR ME reflects not only Adrienne and Elizabeth’s general opposites attract dynamic, but also just how toxic most content from the 80s and 90s truly fucking was.
Listeners who loved WOKEFIELD’s BFF vibes can continue to expect episodes that feel like hanging out with your best friends while also wrestling with just how much pop culture screwed up your ideas about life. DON’T RUIN THIS FOR ME continues to be committed to engaging diverse voices and points of view by booking guests from all walks of life and the podcast’s core mission remains: it’s important to laugh about the shit we take too seriously and that friendship, community, and therapy make life so much better.
