Donate to Ensure Matt's Health Care Needs

Hi everyone, it truly breaks my heart to ask for help like this, but this is our only option right now.

My father has been unwell for a very long time. He is low income and has Medicare/is on social security disability, but actually getting home healthcare has proven to be a bureaucratic and logistical nightmare for us due to a variety of factors.

He has long suffered from tardive dyskenesia, a movement disorder that can make it hard for him to get around the house, bathe, or even put on clothes. He also has spinal stenosis which is one of the main causes of his chronic pain.

I want to tell you a little about my father though, because obviously he is more than his illness. His name is Matthew, but he likes to be called Matt. He loves classical music and listening to WQXR. This man drinks more iced coffee than anyone I know, and has a killer John Cleese impression. He taught me chess. He taught me how to subway surf. He's a real goofball. He is kind. He has truly been through hell in his life, but this is a man who has never stopped trying. He has accepted me, his only kid, as transgender with open arms and an open heart.

I am making this fundraiser because the next few months are going to be very hard. Recently, my father's health has taken a turn for the worse. He has been in and out of hospitals for the past six months, and within the last few days, his health and mobility have taken a sharp decline. It has gotten to the point where he literally cannot get out of bed anymore. He cannot physically take care of himself and needs home health aides to help him with everyday tasks. Right now he is in the hospital, where they are hopefully getting to the bottom of what has caused this steep decline in his mobility. In the meantime, to prepare for his return home, and because he cannot be alone anymore, we need funds to hire caregivers outside of his insurance, until we are able to transition into more long term care. I'm honestly not sure what that means yet, but one thing I know for sure is that it will not be cheap.

Every single dollar raised will go directly towards his care, medical supplies, elder law attorneys, and home necessities. It would mean the world to me if you could donate, literally anything at all helps us. Even sharing this helps.
