Donations needed to film educational craftivism events

Donation protected
Dear Craftivists, Gentle Protesters, friends and strangers,

My name is Sarah P Corbett and I am the founder of the global Craftivist Collective. Our mission is to provide resources, inspiration and support for a growing global community to become more confident, compassionate and effective gentle protesters.

It feels like this way of protest is needed more than ever in a world that feels so much more polarised, where the gap of inequality is getting larger, and so much of the activism we see in the spotlight is divisive, unloving and unsustainable.

Film is now one of the most popular mediums that people learn about new ideas and tactics online. Therefore I am asking for donations to help capture four unique events across the UK that are addressing four of the most important areas in our work with experts in those fields. These films will be uploaded to YouTube in their entirety for those who cannot attend these events IRL and as bitesized snippets for our growing social media community (50,000+) and beyond. The goal of these unique films are to help educate, empower and reach people around the world to help them on their journey as positive changemakers. Please can you help? :)

This universal content as an investment; useful resources for existing craftivists, community groups, professional campaigners, charity workers, craft lovers and those who are anxious to take part in other forms of activism as well as the many students around the world who study our work.

I will work closely with the experts below so that each topic is delved into thoughtfully, there is no duplicated content and to make sure our advice is as universal and timeless as possible for these films to be used far and wide to help changemakers around the world make our world a more beautiful, kind and fair world for all.

The events filmed will be:

Wellbeing:
9th May (London): I will be in conversation with Dr Roselind Sinclair focusing on how gentle craftivism can be a transformational tool for personal wellbeing and community cohesion looking at how handicraft actions and spaces can address activism burnout, polarisation as well as help with mindfulness, critical thinking and personal resilience.

Neuroscience:
21st May (Milton Keynes). Broadcaster Robin Ince will ask myself and Dr Danbee Kim neuroscientist from MIT to talk about how gentle craftivism effects the brain for the maker, powerholders, public and in groups compared to less-gentle forms of activism.

Design:
23rd May (Birmingham): Design academic and broadcaster Tom Dyckhoff and I will talk about how to see gentle craftivism through the lens of design-thinking, and system thinking. With so many more design students studying my work and art students too, this would be particularly helpful for them and how we need to serve the cause not just create an artistic 'awareness raising' object.

Activism & Feminism:
24th May (Manchester) Professor Helen Pankhurst is part of the suffrage movement dynasty and has worked as a strategic activist in the UK and Ethiopia for CARE International. She has supported my work for years and is wavering the speaker fee, travel and accommodation to take part in this event in Manchester. We will focus on activism strategy, feminism and influence of the PR genius of the suffrage movement.

Venue hosts:
X+Why will be hosting the events in their beautiful sites across the UK. They are a B Corp co-working space, created specifically for social entrepreneurs and charities in spaces that have more plants than people (that is one of their commitments) and are as ethical and sustainable spaces as can be. They have kindly gave a generous discount to help these events happen.

How the funds will be used:
The funds will go straight to Velvet Green, a small but mighty social enterprise. Their mission is "harnessing the transformative force of media to amplify voices, drive positive impact, and empower a more efficient and inclusive future." They exclusively work with climate-conscious companies, offset everyday emissions and they donate 5-10% of every project to a charity of their client's choice. Brendan and Kiran are good eggs creating beautiful content that is a perfect fit with Craftivist Collective aesthetics and values. Each event will be filmed on three cameras: one on myself, one on the interviewer and a widescreen shot of both of us. This means the event can be edited to be engaging to watch on YouTube full length landscape format, short sections landscape and snippets for social media in portrait formats.

I apologise that Gift Aid is not eligible on your donation here. I hope you believe these films will be useful now and in the future for viewers around the world to be courageous, compassionate and clever changemakers - you know our world so desperately needs.

Thank you for taking the time to read this fundraiser with an open heart and open mind. Please donate what you can or share with others that you think might be able to help,

In solidarity,
Sarah P Corbett xxx...
