Hi everyone,

My name is Karri, and I’m reaching out to you on behalf of my friend Rachel (Wright) Maverick. I met Rachel during our senior year of high school, and over the years, she has become a very dear friend. Today I’m asking for your support to help her during a challenging time.

Rachel has been fighting a long and difficult custody battle for her beloved son, Ethan, for the past eight years. Despite being granted joint 50/50 custody last summer, she’s now being dragged back into court for yet another custody dispute.

The emotional and financial strain of these ongoing legal battles has been immense for Rachel and Ethan. The legal fees are mounting, and Rachel needs our support to help cover these costs so she can continue to focus on being the loving and dedicated mother that she is.

Salutations! My name is Rachel. I’m a single mother to my beloved Ethan, a loving and spirited child with special needs. Ethan’s father and I have been in contentious litigation for eight years. In June 2023, I won a trial that guaranteed our son equal access to both of his parents. However, by April 2024, his father had re-opened that case. Historically, my ex-husband’s goal has been to win full custody with me paying him the maximum child support allowed by law. He seeks to obliterate me and my relationship with Ethan.

He already wrecked me financially. At four, Ethan lost the only home he knew, and I filed for bankruptcy. For eight years, nearly every penny of my teacher’s salary has gone to pay mounting legal bills.

I cannot afford an attorney this time, and without one, our little ship of two is destined to sink. Ethan will lose me and be forever changed without a mother present to teach him empathy or to foster his spiritual wellbeing or to discuss the mysteries of the universe (at twelve, he is very smart!).

I will lose my beating heart.

Our family court systems are broken. A child shouldn’t be a pawn “won” by the individual with the most to spend.
