Donate to help fund expeditions for young people
Donation protected
I’m Alfie, a young person selected by the British Exploring Society (BES) to undertake a 3 week expedition to Iceland. While there, I will be wild camping, with no access to toilets or showers, relying on water collected from glacial streams and cooking my own food. I will have the opportunity to trek up volcanoes and explore the glacial landscape, and will receive training from expedition leaders and experts, including a separate practice expedition. In order to help fund the work of BES, I am fundraising £250 towards future expeditions.
In order to fundraise this money, I am planning to run a half-marathon in early June. While I run regularly, I have never completed a run of this distance and I’ve therefore already started training for it. I’d be really grateful if you could give some money to sponsor me in this event; not only will all donations go straight to BES, but it would really motivate me to keep training!
By donating, you are helping to change the lives of 1000s of young people, while also helping me to complete my expedition. The first £250 raised will go straight to BES to help fund the amazing opportunities they provide to young people. Any more money raised will help fund my kit for the expedition. Due to the length of the expedition I will need a backpack that can properly support my back; however, a good backpack can cost upwards of £300, so any extra donations would be greatly appreciated.
British Exploring Society (BES) is a charity which organises expeditions to far-flung places across the globe, to young people who may not necessarily otherwise have access to the opportunities and experiences that their programmes provide. As well as travelling and learning about the world, BES help young people develop essential life skills and encourage them to go outside their comfort zone and make amazing memories along the way. However, as a charity, they rely entirely on generous donations such as yours in order to run their expeditions.
