Many of you saw the street interview I did with CJ on my Instagram account CommunityasTherapy. I started Community as Therapy as a way to help people feel more connected and to truly listen to people’s stories.
I met CJ sitting on a park bench in St Pete, Florida and he began detailing the grief he was experiencing from the passing of his wife just a couple months ago. As the conversation continued, I found out CJ became homeless recently after no longer being able to afford the place his late wife and he had been sharing.
I was deeply moved not only by his love for his wife but also by the fact that an elderly man who was caring for his sick wife for years is now homeless.
I started this fundraiser to help CJ get a warm place to stay. I know a kind message to brighten his spirits would also mean so much.
I will be delivering the funds directly to CJ, along with helping him find an apartment so he can get off the streets and help him connect to necessary resources, like bus transportation (understanding routes, etc.) and community support.
