Donate to give new habitat to the chimpanzees
Donation protected
Hello my name is Costantino Tessarin, the founder of the Association for Conservation of Bugoma Forest, a no profit environmental organization in Uganda. Since 2013 I have dedicated some of my time to developing projects and actions to protect Bugoma Forest reserve, a chimpanzee sanctuary in Uganda. With a lot of deforestation happening since 2020, when the company Hoima Sugar started to clear part of the forest reserve and the declining numbers of chimpanzees from an estimated 590 in 2008 to the current less than 390, I thought it was necessary to supplement the awareness and conservation programs with a new project. The Every 5 Acres project is a plan for the reforestation of private lands along the boundary of Bugoma Forest. We started in 2020 with the first purchase of 5 acres, therefore the project's name. We target 100 acres of land to be purchased from farmers and converted into a tropical forest under the ownership and management of the Association for Conservation of Bugoma Forest. The area under the project is very sensitive, being ancestral forested land, where primates and forest elephants were present and biodiversity was rich. The objective is to give new habitat to the chimpanzees who are losing their space due to deforestation. At the same time, we would like to give an opportunity to individuals and donors to invest in carbon sequestration, through the tree planting exercise we do in the acquired lands. Please, you are also invited to come and visit the site, a place of hope where nature is under regeneration. Thank you for supporting Every 5 Acres project.
