Dirt Road Dogs Daycare, Boarding and Training in Choctaw OK is asking for your help with our most recent rescue return Grace.

As many of you may or may not know, in January of 2023 we took a stray that was hit by a car in central OKC. Her front right leg was shattered and needed extensive surgery. That dog was Grace.

She recovered from her initial traumatic experience and quickly adapted to life at camp here at Dirt Road Dogs. She quickly became a staff favorite due to her overwhelmingly sweet disposition and desire for human affection. She was great with dogs, kids, cats and every single human she has ever encountered. In spite of her warm disposition she struggled to find a home. It wasn't till September of 2023 that we thought her troubles were behind her. She had finally found an adopter who promised to love and care for her.

Unfortunately, that was not the case.

We received the call in July of 2024 that no rescuer wants to receive. Grace was recovered in an animal cruelty case in Bartlesville OK. She was one of 3 remaining living animals left to starve by the people who promised to love and protect her. Through luck and the incredible volunteers who rescued her they were able to trace her back to us and help us reunite. She has been returned to us and will remain with us for the foreseeable future. After being rescued we learned that Grace is now heartworm positive.

Heartworm treatment is long, dangerous and very expensive. The rescue we initially partnered with is not able to assist in any way so we are going to be funding her vet bills 100% by ourselves.

We believe Grace has the temperament to excel at Therapy Work and plan to train her to become a Therapy Dog visiting nursing homes, hospitals and schools. We are grateful to have her back and hope her story inspires others to foster and volunteer in their communities.

If you can, please consider donating towards her upcoming heartworm treatment. Anything helps.

Feel free to follow along on Grace's journey to recovery and healing.
