This fundraiser represents the hundreds of people who were distraught and panicked over a video captured through a window the weekend of November 9-10. The video footage, taken by an unnamed witness then posted on social media by Good Samaritan Stephen Sinclair, showed a yelping dog being continuously punched, choked, and thrown against a wall. The witness told Sinclair that it wasn't the first time he'd seen violent animal abuse in the building, now leased by the King County Homeless Authority.
Initially, the witness called the Seattle Police Department, who said they couldn't do anything to stop the beating because it was a "civil" matter, not a "criminal" one. The dog, crying out audibly, continued to be terrorized throughout the night. Seattle Animal Control was equally unable to assist.
Change came at 8 AM Monday, when Seattle City Council Member Joy Hollingsworth stood with Sinclair and other distressed neighbors outside the building, unwilling to leave until the dog was rescued. Building management arrived, then two police officers, and finally, the dog was voluntarily turned over. Her name is Angel.
Angel is receiving treatment at a veterinary hospital. Updates will be posted as they come in.
Please contribute whatever you can to help cover Angel's vet bill and recovery, including adoption. The remaining funds will go to Pasado's Safe Haven, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that works legislatively to improve the legal system for animal cruelty victims.
Sincerest thanks are due to everyone involved, including the witness who documented Angel's plight, Good Samaritan Stephen Sinclair, frantic neighbors on social media, the veterinarians treating Angel, and our new hero, Joy Hollingsworth.
From the witness who videotaped Angel's crisis:
“Please make sure to tell everybody from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for coming and thank you for the hard work. And tell Joy Hollingsworth I said thank you for showing up and coming. This meant a lot to me. And touched my heart to know how many people love animals. This really brightened my day. Thank you all for the love and support.”
