Donate to help animals at APROP

Hi, many of you will already know about the volunteer run charity APROP and its work in support of dogs and cats that for whatever reason are unwanted, homeless and suffering in the Pego community. Others reading this might have never heard of APROP but we need the support of everyone, I will tell you why.

Over the last year APROP has welcomed 134 dogs and 102 cats into the shelter. Many of these animals were in very poor health with injuries, diseases and parasites blighting their bodies. APROP provides immediate health checks and veterinary care using local veterinary practices who all do fantastic work for our animals. We try to end the pain and suffering as quickly as possible and return them to health. However all of this costs money and our veterinary costs for the last year were over 70,000 euros. Of course we have to feed our residents and we must provide good quality food because many are malnourished, others need special diets to control health issues. APROP sits on a rented site which costs us annually, we are also responsible for the repairs and maintenance. We are grateful to Pego Ayuntamiento for an annual grant to support us but this grant covers approximately 10% of our annual expenses. The rest comes from the support and kindness of people like you.

APROP does not only support the animals of the Pego community, we are a functioning part of that community providing an essential service to everyone. Most of us love dogs and cats but we all understand the need for a compassionate system to remove stray animals from the streets and make them well again and provide forever homes through our fostering and adoption programs.

On the 12th of April 2025 we want to bring together the whole of the Pego community of animal lovers in a sponsored walking event consisting of four different walks, all starting and finishing at Bar La Verdala, Passeig Azaneta, Pego. (please click here) https://www.aprop-pego.org/es/events/ The walks range from a short 0.7 kilometre walk suitable for all including pushchairs and wheelchairs, through a 2 kilometre walk suitable for most, to a 10.4 kilometre around Pego walk suitable for many and a 10.28 kilometre strenuous mountain walk for the ambitious. This is an inclusive community event and all are welcome to walk or attend.
