As most of you are aware, our friend Antoinette has suffered from severe knee pain for many years. Finally, in August of 2020, she had a total knee replacement. Unfortunately, the pain relief and mobility she had hoped for did not result. During this difficult time when she did not have steady employment income, the private long term disability benefits she had previously purchased were not able to be utilized and her application for Social Security Disability benefits was also denied. She has been very discouraged because she has always been an upstanding and contributing member of society only to be denied when she required assistance. This financial burden is compounded by her acute pain and inability to return to work.

Horrifically, over the holidays, Antoinette received a diagnosis of breast cancer. She has had to face immense emotional turmoil, fear for her health and uncertainty about being able to be seen by a surgeon over the busy holiday period. Furthermore, she is facing surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Currently, she is working only part time due to her chronic pain symptoms and her insurance is prorated to part time benefits as well. Therefore, her medical bills and expenses will be only partially covered.

At this time, I am calling upon Antoinette’s village of family, friends and colleagues to support her during this tough time. She will appreciate any emotional and financial support, rides to treatments and spending quality time with loved ones during this journey. While none of us can lift her burdens solely, we can collectively reduce her financial burden, be accessible for emotional and physical support for everyday activities such as running household errands and spending time with her during treatments.

By working together, we can lighten the load and reduce the stress for our friend and wonderful nurse so she can use her energy to fight this disease and overcome this tough setback.
