I am creating this GoFundMe for my cousin’s 4 month old son, Ephraim. Below is his story given to me from Ephraim’s grandma. Any amount helps this little family❤️

Update 6pm 4/30: Apparently this condition is so super rare that there’s no medication in the state of Utah for this. They’re trying to get some flown in from California, so we appreciate your prayers for that.

Update 3pm 4/30: They originally thought it was respiratory because when they tried putting his oxygen tube in, it was filled with mucus. He had a cold last night but a productive cough. They tested for viruses and he is indeed positive for one that closely resembles RSV they said was hitting infants harder than usual this year. But upon further tests he also had infant botulism, which can cause slight symptoms at first and then progresses FAST. Nobody has any clue as to where he could have gotten this from. There are other tests they’re running because his blood was clotting super weird but the thing we were concerned about the most—being the lack of oxygen he experienced and possible long term brain damage— the neurologists are showing no sign of seizure and health brain scans. ❤️ Honestly, I’m attributing this to our prayers, and I say to you all from the bottom of my heart- thank you….thank you…eternally thank you. It turns out that infant botulism is extremely rare and they’ve ruled out any common causes (no my daughter in law would not have given him honey) but fixable if treated in time. The only thing we can think of is that some botulism can be caused by soil and if it’s it’s been windy (which it has been), that might be the culprit? He has only ever had breast milk, he is 4 months old and his mom is safety conscious and doting. I was with them last night helping his sweet momma who had done everything right, taken him to drs, and baby Ephraim seemed like he had a productive cough and mild cold, no labored breathing but was a little weak. But he was nursing well and even humming to his mom while he nursed. Having had six kids myself and he didn’t have warning signs of a bad case of RSV (one of my daughters had it when she was a month old, he did not seem in distress like she was. No labored breathing and a productive cough…like a normal cold). We did not know of any signs of botulism before today but apparently it can hit hard and hit fast, and cause extreme lethargy very quickly so that his muscles are unable to move, lungs unable to pump. Last night he did not seem at all to have the severe signs that he had this morning. His parents quickly moved on his lethargy this morning and there’s really not much they could have done that they didn’t do already. Their doctor wasn’t worried. But now he will be in critical care for awhile, the hospital has ordered the medicine for botulism and we are still praying and hopeful for a full recovery. Having either the virus or botulism is life endangering but having both is extremely dangerous. We will need prayers especially into tomorrow, please as the medicine will work the most in the next 24 hours. And I pray each of you may know the love and deeply felt gratitude I have for you. Once again, your prayers are powerful when United and I’m thankful to a loving Father who hears, who knows, and who is always faithful to us with His love and His wisdom, even and especially in challenging times.
