Update 3/26: From Dana: Keeping a kid up all night is so so hard smh bentley has his sleep deprived eeg this morning at 8 and he wasn't allowed to sleep at all this whole night and boy oh boy it's been a rough one. You all say a prayer for Bentley and Dana as they go in for more testing. Pray the doctors are able to find some sort of answers as to why he keeps having seizures, even with an increase in medications!
Update 3/18: Bentley had a rough night, I'm sure he had a focal/absent seizure last night at 1am he sat up in bed head turned to right and he just stared at the ceiling for about a min he was non responsive to me than he came back and said some off the wall stuff and laid back down. Then all night after he tossed and turned so bad.
Update from Dana 3/15:The second opinion on Bentley today went great Bentley likes that doctor.. he's very straight to the point and tells it like it is.. He is running blood work to test everything and see his Keppra/depakote levels. We go back to him in 4/3/24 to discuss and see how things have progressed. He also said next time Bentley has a seizure to bring him there and no matter what time of day or night he will be the one who comes to see him in the hospital to be with him so he can see first hand what the seizures are doing to Bentley and decide what other test he wants to run. He's looking over everything also from uva to compare. Thank you all for the support! We are praying they get some answers!!
Update from Dana 3/14: I was wrong about bentley being seizures free yesterday, he had some just the meds he's on stopped them from being full blown to where we actually see them. We are getting ready to head home but I'm going to get a second opinion tomorrow at Richmond.
Bentley and Dana still do not have any answers. He is still having seizures, but UVA does not know why they keep happening, so they are doing trial and error with different medications. They will be going to Richmond tomorrow for a neurology appointment, where they hope to get answers. Many people have asked where to send money besides on go fund me. Dana's information: Cash app $1ilmama, paypay is the same 1ilmama.
Update from Dana 3/13: We finally got out the er and into a room! Bentley started a new medicine today called Depakote along with the 2500mg of Keppra he's on, monitoring him thru the night to make sure he can handle the doses and see what they will do with the seizures. He has been seizures free today thank God. Hopefully we are on the right path to some kind of calmness for him. He still has more appointments to go and still no answers to what is causing all this to happen as the mri came back fine so we are still searching for answers. Thank you all for the support, love and prayers as we still learn this new lifestyle for him and myself.
Update from Dana on 3/12: So unfortunately we are being rushed to hospital again. Bentley and I were sleeping and he had another one this time quit breathing and I had to Administrator the emergency meds to get him back! yall pray
UVA is admitting Bentley again for further testing. He is finally getting the MRI done right now! They have increased his medication again, and will be monitoring him through EEG once again. This is a step in the right direction, and Dana would like to thank everyone for their prayers, kind words, and donations. They still have a long road ahead of them, but thank God the doctors finally agree that something just is not right.
Hello, I am posting this gofundme on be-half of Dana and Bentley to help cover medical bills, appointments, and bills in general. Bentley was a normal 13 year old until February 20, when their lives changed. Bentley was at school when he had a tonic-clonic seizure, and stopped breathing. While in the rescue squad, he continued to have seizures but he stopped breathing and he had no pulse. Bentley was rerouted to a different hospital, where this happened several more times. Bentley spent 2 days in ICU (where he continued to have mulitple seizures) before being discharged with a diagnosis of epilepsy. They started him on medication, but they are still uncontrolled. On 3/4 Bentley was rushed back to the hospital where he had 2 more seizures, and unfortunately Dana still didn't receive an answer as to why this may be happening. Instead, she was told to familiarize herself with Sudep (sudden unexpected death of a person with epilepsy) because of the type of seizures he has. They also found a block in his heart that they believe is associated with his seizures, but he will need further testing for this. His medication was increased and they were unfortunately sent home with numerous outpatient appointments. On 3/11 while in school, Bentley suffered from another seizure and was rushed back to the hospital. They increased his medication again, and sent them home. But, before they even got home, Bentley had another one in the car, which prompted Dana to have to call 911 from the side of the road. Bentley's vitals were stable so they were sent home to rest and wait for his upcoming appointments. While at home that night, Bentley had 2 more seizures. This is all so scary for both of them, and not having answers makes it worse. Dana is a single parent, so she is literally not sleeping, because she fears the worst (as any parent would). She has had to take unpaid leave from work while they navigate through these hard times. I am rallying for them during this difficult time, and asking everyone to please pray for answers and control. Please pray the doctors have the knowledge to figure out what is going on and to give Bentley the best treatment. If you can, please donate to help Dana and Bentley. Any amount will help. Bentley has an appointment in Richmond on 3/15, one in Charlottesville on 3/26, and another on 4/2 and 4/10 with neurology. We are praying to finally get some answers and control of the seizures.
