At only 21 years old, Braiden Bergum is heading into battle of his life. After a month of feeling something wasn’t quite right, a severe headache led him to Urgent Care. A head CAT Scan showed a mass. He was quickly transferred to Madison where an MRI revealed a tumor larger than the size of a lemon on the left side of the brain. After consulting with numerous specialists from multiple hospitals, the diagnosis is a complicated one. Surgeons suspect the tumor has been growing for “years”, however has now reared its ugly head. They have said there is no way for them to remove the tumor completely as it is too large and too embedded in his brain cells. Until they operate and know exactly what they are dealing with, we won’t find out the course of action to try to contain regrowth.
The tumor has swelled and is pressing on the right side of the brain. Braiden is now high risk for seizures and was immediately put on anti-seizure medication, along with steroids to reduce the swelling. He was sent home from the hospital, but doctors have advised that he not be left alone.
The medical team suggested Braiden check some things off his bucket list prior to surgery. Further stating that post surgery, there is no guarantee he will be the same ole Braiden or may have a period of time to get back to himself. Braiden being the fighter that he is, has chosen to face this beast head on. As he is feeling the impacts of this more and more daily, he has decided that he doesn’t want to continue to decline and face the unknowns. His surgery has been scheduled for next week.
Braiden was working full time and will now be out of work for an undetermined amount of time. He will also require round the clock care for the unforeseeable future. The family is setting up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for medical treatment, prescriptions, travel expenses to/from appointments and daily living expenses. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. Prayers and positive thoughts for Braiden and his family as he heads into battle are also welcome.
