Many of you know our 3-year-old rescue, BRU. He is a Boxer/American Bulldog mix and is the most loving, caring, happy-go-lucky dog you have ever set your eyes on. He has been an emotional support to many veterans that have come through our home, he has protected me in times when I was not aware I was in danger, but he KNEW. He has been our home protector and the light of our blended family and friends with his incredible smile, disposition, and audible coos.
But, now BRU needs our help. He recently was having the time of his life zooming around our yard when one wrong step with a twist and yelp rendered him unable to walk on his back left leg. BRU is just shy of 90lbs and is currently limited in his mobility, oftentimes needing to be lifted or have a towel held up to support his hips to avoid placing his leg down on the ground.
Long story short, our vet examined him and did a radio graph and he has torn his cruciate ligament which is the equivalent of an athlete tearing their ACL. The vet shared with us that even with the gold-standard treatment, BRU will be disabled and continue to be in pain if we do not move forward with surgery to correct this injury.
We have been referred to an orthopedic surgeon, and upon discussing the cost, because of his size and the necessary exams, labs, overnight stay, anesthesia, and more, we are expected to pay an upfront cost of $5940.
- $190 will go towards the consultation/exam with the specialist
- $450 will cover the overnight surgical stay
- $5,300 for the surgery itself
- And that is not including the after-surgical needs of pain medications and his leg wrap
We hope to have BRU undergo this surgery as soon as possible, and there is an opening for the initial consult on August 3rd, following a potential surgery date on August 14th. That is only the beginning. He will then need to recover for 6 weeks, and myself or Josh will need to ensure we are with him during this recovery period to ensure he does the necessary things to heal properly.
We are looking into foundations that can contribute to this cost as well, we are pooling our lines of credit to apply for financing options (but this option looks bleak). BRU needs your support and your help so we can make this a reality for our young babe. He is down and out, and cannot even go on simple walks anymore. It hurts him to try and sit or lay down.
Any donation amount will be incredibly helpful, and the shares you can provide within your network as well. Please know from the bottom of our hearts that we thank you in advance for taking the time to consider supporting and aiding in these overwhelming medical costs. He is our baby, and even more so, he is my heart.
Thank you,
