On the eve of our 2023 Sailing Season, Buddy, my sweet, loving, kind and special dog injured his back left leg on Saturday, March 27th. After a visit to the Emergency Vet in Warren, and his primary vet at Medomak, the consensus is that he has suffered a severe left CCL tear. He is currently non-weight bearing on that leg and needs to be carried around everywhere. Because Buddy works and lives aboard a sailing vessel, he requires full mobility to insure his safety and well-being. Without the surgery, there is also a high chance of him tearing his other back leg ligament, creating a difficult quality of life issue. The current cost of his TPLO surgery as recommended by the vet is $3,700-$3,800, plus another $500-$900 in imaging before that, and boarding. While Buddy is a stoic dog, he is confused right now, and in pain. He's currently being managed by a regime of NSAIDS and painkillers.
If we can get the surgery, Buddy faces a recovery away from the boat to ensure his safety and quick healing. He would not be able to be aboard for at least a month as departing and arriving to the boat requires going up and down a ladder, and then a boarding ladder into the moving dinghy in any and all harbor conditions. I am hopeful I can find someone local in Camden who can help us with that.
I'm regretfully asking for help in easing the massive financial burden of this operation. I have added the vet's estimate in the photos above for transparency. Any assistance, even a share or words of support means so much.
