Hi, my name is Bob Byers, I am Walt Byers’ son. Many of you may already know me. I have started this GoFundMe to help with my dad’s medical expenses.

My dad was the first employee at Sullair to give 50 years of service, so as a retirement present we decided to take him on an Alaskan cruise, which he has always wanted to do. As some of you may know, Sunday August 4th, the second to last day of our cruise (07/28/2024-08/06/2024) my dad had to be hospitalized on the cruise ship. He was diagnosed with influenza “A”, a lot of congestion in his lungs and possibly bacterial pneumonia. Shortly after being admitted, he became non-responsive. They intubated him and sedated him through the night and when we docked Monday morning in Vancouver, British Columbia they called the ambulance to transfer him to a local hospital. As of Wednesday afternoon, August 7th, they removed the tube and he is slowly starting to recover in the ICU, but I have no idea how long this process will take before he is released. I am here with him and his wife / my mom Linda, is at home in Indiana.

He is on Medicare, which will not cover any medical expenses outside of the United States. As you know, medical bills, add up fast, and we already have a huge medical bill from the ship.

I have always willingly gave to others in times of need, hoping that I would never have to be on the other end of it. Well here I am with my dad humbly asking for your generosity in this difficult time. As you know, life happens fast and you have no way to prepare for things like this. Any and all donations no matter how small will help and will go towards his medical expenses and getting us home. Please share this as often as possible.
