As some of you are aware my sister Lisa & her husband JohnPaul have had more than there fair share of heartache and tragedy over the past number of years. Once again tragedy has came to there door only this time they were lucky, there one year old son is alive. On the 3rd of January 2023 there son donnacha was hit by a car, although his injuries were minor on the night of the tragic accident, donnacha ended up getting a blood clot on his back where he had a very small fracture, the Blood clot ended up pushing against his spinal cord, which ended up, damaging the nerves in his spinal Cord this has resulted in
Donnacha being paralysed from the chest down. Doctors have said it is unlikely he will walk again but we remain hopeful that someday he will walk and return to the active little boy he was before his injury. At the moment, donnacha is still in hospital but we are hoping he will be home soon. Due to donnacha’s injury there is alot of changes that need to be done to adjust to donnacha’s needs. There is special equipment, change of vehicle and most importantly major house renovations and an extension. There house is an old house and is not wheelchair accessible. Lisa and John Paul have only found out recently that donnacha will be able to get his own electric wheelchair, after he turns two which is only a few months away, we are all excited and can’t wait to see donnacha drive around his wheelchair and regain some of the independence he had before the accident. Donnacha was the most active toddler into everything and could climb out of anything we all used to call him Houdini. Now he gets frustrated when he can’t move around and follow his brothers and sisters. Having there home wheelchair accessible is a very vital part in helping donnacha in his recovery and getting back to his active self. We are aware grants are available and they will be applying for them, but they will only cover a small amount of what is needed to be done and got for donnacha. The house renovations needs to be started ASAP. Any donations big or small would be greatly appreciated In helping donnacha with his recovery.
