My name is Shreyan Das, I'm a 22-year-old from Scotland currently on a year-long placement with Osborne Clarke in New York. My goal is to raise as much money as possible to provide St. George’s Society of New York (SGSNY) scholars with a similar academic opportunity that I had.
On the 19th of May, I will be running a marathon around New York to raise money for SGSNY’s Fund-A-Scholar campaign so that they can provide financial support for City University of New York (CUNY) Scholars to attend college. A full scholarship costs $7500 and I’m hoping to raise $3000.
St. George's Society is committed to increasing educational equity and reducing the financial barriers for its scholars, all of whom have a Commonwealth heritage. These impressive students come from low-income households, are primarily first-generation college students and are from an ethnic minority background. As someone who comes from an underrepresented background, this resonated with me strongly and is something I feel passionate about.
Coincidentally, my run coincides with UNESCO's World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development which celebrates not only the richness of the world’s cultures, but also the essential role of intercultural dialogue for achieving peace and sustainable development. Clearly a good omen for my endeavour!
I invite everyone to support me and this important cause by making a donation to these deserving students, and by doing your own run or walk on May 19th.
Thank you in advance for your contribution!
