"From the Rubble to Hope: I am Hani, and my surviving family, struggling to stay alive and rebuild what genocide has destroyed in Gaza."
Hello, my name is Hani, I am 26 years old from Gaza City. I studied Social Work at university, but due to the limited job opportunities in Gaza, I had to work as a taxi driver. In October of last year, the war began on Gaza, and our house was located in a northern area near the border. From the very first moment, we had to make the hardest decision of our lives: to flee.
We lived in the north for two months after the war started, but as the bombings continued, and homes and facilities were destroyed, we reached a point where there was no safe place left. All areas were targeted by the occupation forces, and we began to feel that life had become impossible. So, we decided to flee to the south, where the occupation claimed there were safe areas, but the reality was quite different.
Our difficult journey began the moment we decided to leave. Cars were being targeted on the roads, and when we reached the first checkpoint set by the occupation, we realized that we had to walk 6000 meters without any means of transport. We tried to find any way to move, and after much effort, we found a horse-drawn cart, and we headed south.
We reached the checkpoint, and there we began to wait our turn, with a long distance ahead to reach the crossing points guarded by soldiers. The children were tired, my father, aged 55, was exhausted, and my mother suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure. Hours passed slowly, and we faced a real threat at every moment.
After 8 hours of waiting, we were able to pass the crossing, but we were in a state of exhaustion. We had no food or water, and with time, we started to feel hopeless. But by God's grace, we made it to the other side. After crossing the checkpoint, we walked more than 3 kilometers until we reached a point where we could board a bus heading south.
We arrived in the Deir al-Balah area, where we were able to live in a school that had been turned into a shelter for the displaced. There were more than 10,000 people in the same place. There was no room for us inside the classrooms, so we had to live along the walls with other families. After a month, we were told we had to leave. We moved to Rafah, where a charity helped us and gave us a tent in a camp.
But after four months, we were told again that we had to leave. This time, we moved to the Zawayda area in the central region. We are currently living inside a school that was under construction, where we managed to find a place, but we are living in classrooms shared with five other families. We have been here for five months now, and the conditions are becoming extremely difficult.
Campaign Goals:
1. Leaving Gaza: Securing the necessary funds to travel to a safe place away from war and conflict, where my family can find safety.
2. Providing a Safe Home: Finding a new home away from the conflict where we can live in peace.
3. Healthcare for My Mother: Providing necessary medical care for my mother, who is ill.
4. Rebuilding Our Lives: Providing essential needs such as food, medicine, and education, so we can start a new life.
This story is not just a request for help; it is a cry from a broken heart. We need your support so we can live with dignity, away from the fear and destruction that have become part of our daily lives. Your donation can make the difference between staying in these harsh conditions or starting a new beginning.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who extends a helping hand during these difficult times.
