Jacco Stuben is a former resident of the Ville-Marie expressway encampment. He has recently undergone evictions from two different encampments over the course of three months at the hands of Quebec's Ministry of Transportation. He has been constantly displaced and forced to move all of his belongings (primarily by himself) to newer, more hidden, locations. Jacco shares his encampment with one other person, Zehas. Zehas is currently suffering from diabetes which affects his feet, unable to treat his ailment makes moving and doing grunt-work with Jacco extremely difficult. With the belongings Jacco could not bring to his newer encampment, he has had to divide up his and Zehas' belongings across the city by renting out garages and lockers.
Jacco's current means of making money is refunding cans and bottles.
As the temperature begins to drop, living outside becomes increasingly difficult and unsafe. Living outside is also a risk as the threat of eviction is always a possibility, which only worsens the living conditions of these already marginalized individuals.
The donations received will go towards funding the lockers currently harbouring Jacco/Zehas' belongings, as well as towards securing subsidized housing.
