The friends and family of Jeff and Jenny Bodine are putting together this fundraiser to support Jeff as he starts a new medical journey. For those that have known and loved this family, you have seen the many challenges Jeff has been thru over the years. Many of these required time off work, travel for doctor’s appointments, and high medical bills. Now, Jeff has recently been diagnosed with cancer, and will need additional medical trips, time off work, and additional medical bills on top of his existing treatments.
Jeff and Jenny have always been hard working and humble. Because of that, the friends and family are asking on their behalf to help support them thru this tough time. The money from this fundraiser will go directly to them to cover the trips to Mayo Clinic, medical bills, and bills while Jeff is in recovery.
Please see the below update on Jeff from Jenny Bodine:
So, most of you know that we had recently went to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN to explore the recent balance issues that Jeff had been having. In the meantime, of being at Mayo with no real answers on his balance it had been requested that he have a follow up CT scan on a rib lesion that was found incidental 2 ½ years ago when he had kidney stones, at this time we were told it was Osteochondroma (benign tumor.) After the most recent scan on September 14th, we were told that this benign tumor had grown and they gave us a new diagnosis of a Chondrosarcoma (cancerous tumor.) The plan is to travel to Mayo clinic after recently meeting with the surgeons there and Jeff will have surgery for removal on Wednesday, October 26th.
For the surgery:
They will go in on the left side, and make an incision overtop of the rib, remove the tumor, part of the 8th rib and maybe 7th and 9th. They plan to do a 2cm margin all around so depending on the extent of the surgery will depend on the reconstruction. He will have a cortex patch or muscle flap reconstruction, PCA for pain control, and chest tube for 1-3 days. He will be in the hospital 3-5 days (depending on the extent of the surgery.)
As of right now unless they find something else during surgery or if the margins are not clear he will not require radiation, but rather close follow up with CT scans every 3-6 months.
Please pray this coming week as we travel to Mayo, for the surgery, clean margins, for the surgical team, for our family, and for Jeff as he recovers for 4-6 weeks.
