Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. Jeremiah 33:3
Jerry Taylor needs no introduction by anyone to tell his story because his story can easily be found in his testimony and how he walks with God. Many of you know that he dedicated his whole life to doing God's work. He served as a missionary with the Rock of Ages Prison Ministry before becoming the Pastor at New Grace Baptist Church in Iron Station, NC.
On December 15 he woke up excited about his upcoming “trip of a lifetime” as he referred to it. He was checking off one more thing from his to-do list. That morning he had no idea that a simple cough would change his life. That day he was informed that his cough was likely cancer.
Before his trip, he underwent lung biopsies and was told that he was likely facing stage 2 lung cancer. His doctors agreed that going to Israel would be a good distraction while they confirmed the diagnosis and prepared a treatment plan.
As you know, we prayed for him and his trip and some of us were jealous of the pictures he posted and wished we had been there too. On the last day of his trip, he began feeling tired and chalked it up to the miles he had walked on the trip. He said 5 miles a day is nothing for these young men like Bro. Tyler….but he did his best to keep up with them. He couldn’t wait to get home and tell us all he had seen and learned.
It became apparent that he was getting worse with every hour that passed upon his return. On Monday, January 30. 2023, as a family we convinced him to at least go and get checked out. This time it was us that had no idea what we were about to face. What we assumed was dehydration and weakness turned life-threatening.
Michael (the middle child) spent that night with dad at the hospital and the entire night he reported that he heard nonstop scriptures and prayers from dad to God. The next day, dad was rolled out of the room waving bye for what could have been his last time…..
But God……
Provided what was needed and he put the right doctors and nurses, in the right place, at the right time.
The following days were not easy…..
But God….
Provided what was needed and he poured support and love around us and we felt God’s love through the calls, texts, messages, and more!
The ultimate diagnosis is Stage 4, non-small cell metastatic lung adenocarcinoma with metastatic adenocarcinoma on pericardial fluid; mediastinal lymph nodes; and lymphangitis carcinomatosis.
But God….
Provided the verse that Jerry would constantly refer to. We know as a family, church, and community that God is capable of the great and mighty things that we know not.
Looking ahead.....
Aggressive chemotherapy begins on Monday, February 13, 2022. The PleruX will continue to drain any build-up of fluid to assist with his breathing. He is getting home health, and palliative care in conjunction with a great team of specialists. With all the medical needs comes the financial burden of the hospital, doctor, pharmacy, labs, radiology, and other bills.
But God….
Provided people just like you to help! Before Jerry was discharged from the hospital the bills were being delivered and piling up. From December 2022 - February 2023, he meet his out-of-pocket maximum for both insurance years which is $19,500. That figure doesn't even consider the cost of traveling, over-the-counter medications, meals, or anything else that is needed.
Please pray about what God would have you do!
Thank you to those who already gave and thank you to those who will.
