*UPDATE #4 (7/31/22)*

John was taken off of life support on the night of July 31, 2022. He was surrounded by friends and family all day. His two children were with him every step of the way. Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and support since his accident.

Proceeds are going to his children and will go to bills and taking care of everything from here on out.

**UPDATE #3**

(update from my uncle Ernie) Several issues have happened. They have been flipping him from his back to his stomach so to get relief from laying on his back for so long. While doing this he complained about not getting enough air,so on his back he seems better. So he requested to be put back on the oxygen full time so they did. Then he developed a irregular heart beat which they put whats called a 12 lead then it happened again so they caught it and waiting for results, but then his co2 levels dropped and his white cells count went really high so at this point they medically sedated him and back on life support and medically induced coma. He’s a fighter and with prayers and gods will hopefully he will come out of this.

**UPDATE #2**

John been going through a lot of issues since the accident. He’s been having issues with breathing and he had to get a tracheotomy operation. Because of his previous COVID-19 that landed him in the hospital, his lungs were damaged. The doctors are optimistic they can remove it. All other issues that require surgery will happen once his vitals improve. The cancer will be addressed once the other issues have been resolved. Thank you all for your generosity and continual support.

**UPDATE** John is currently responsive. He is paralyzed as of right now and there is some hope he will regain some (likely minimal) feeling in his legs. Funds will be used to move him to an accessible home as well as medical bills and day to day living expenses. My family is overwhelmed by the love and support we have received through this fundraiser. Thank you.

Hi, my name is Lindsay and I am fundraising on behalf of my uncle John.

John was involved in a car accident in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Monday, July 17 at around 7pm. He was on his moped when the unthinkable happened. The accident happened right outside of his apartment complex.

John had to get surgery due to extensive injuries to his legs, spine, gallbladder, ribs, and multiple other parts of his body that were impacted in the crash. It was a risky surgery as he already has heart issues as well as colon cancer. Fortunately, the surgery went as well as it could have.

The doctors did all they could, but due to severe injuries to his spinal cord, he can never walk again. He is currently on life support.

Once/if John gets out of the hospital, he can't go home as he resides on a second floor apartment with no elevator access. I'm sure you can imagine moving on such short notice is causing even more stress on his two children. They must come up with money ASAP to move to a place that can be more accessible to John. They will need to pay for countless hospital bills, provide groceries for themselves and John, pay all monthly bills on their own. They will have to miss several work days in order to take care of John who will need around-the-clock care for a long time.

In the last 3 years, John has survived a heart attack, suffered pneumonia and COVID-19, colon cancer, radiation and chemo, and now has survived an unimaginable accident that will affect him and his family for the rest of his life.

Please help my family get through these horrible, horrible times. You have no idea how much it would mean to his children who need ALL the help they can get right now.
