My name is Alicia, I am Kayla’s cousin.

Kayla was diagnosed with HCM, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, almost 10 years ago. This condition causes the muscles in the heart to become so thick it makes it hard for it to pump blood properly. It’s to the point now that she is in need of a defibrillator which is a little device that monitors the heart rate and sends a strong electronic shock in the event the rate becomes irregular. This is an inpatient and invasive implant surgery.

The procedure is on Aug 5 and she will need to take time off work, Toby is hoping to be able to take some time off as well to take care of her. With the cost of the MRI, echos, holter monitor and now the defibrillator, the medical bills keep climbing.

Some have asked how they can help Kayla and her family get through this scary time. Although she would never want to be in a position to have to ask for help, anything you could donate toward their cost of medical bills and her time off work for recovery would be absolutely amazing. They’re already under a lot of stress worrying about the procedure so anything we can do to ease their minds even a little would mean the world.
