Hi, my name is Keisha. You may be interested to know that I was born in South Africa. South Africa is a country marred by many civil rights issues, inequality, and poverty despite its beautiful sunsets and wild animals. One of the hardest things for me now as an Australian Permanent Resident, is to see the continued struggles happening over in South Africa. One of the biggest humanitarian crises facing many people in South Africa, are the basics like clean running water, electricity, a roof overhead, food on the plate, and access to medicine. But what you may not realise is that many people, in their twilight years are abandoned by their families who simply cannot afford to care for them. Many of these senior citizens also suffer from Altzheimers and Dementia. This is where Eden House comes in.

I am proud to say that my Mom, who still lives in South Africa is the Director of Eden House, she has always had a passion for helping people (which must be where I get it from) and her team are doing the best they can to provide a safe, caring & supportive environment for those who have been misplaced or left behind by their loved ones. Eden House provides meals, medicine, accommodation, bedding, clothing, and everything else needed to keep its residents comfortable. But they need help. Their current location is on a farm, and they are also reliant on borehole water which is running low. Without a good water supply, they can not run the home much longer. Due to financial constraints and lack of donations/funding, Eden is forced to relocate to more affordable premises to prevent the House from closing down.

However, to prepare the new premises they urgently need to raise funds to enable them to do restoration and maintenance before serving as an elderly home on the selected premises.

Some details about the restoration and requirements needed:
1. 4x additional bathrooms (shower, basin, and toilet)
2. 2x additional rooms
3. 2x sliding doors with sidelights
4. 140sqm of ceiling boards
5. Electrical Work
6. Plumbing
7. Walkway from rooms to the main reception/TV room/dining hall
8. Additional tables and chairs for the dining hall
9. Gas stove
10. Tiling of additional rooms and bathrooms

Most important, they need to be self-sustainable with regard to electricity. In South Africa, it is very common to have frequent long periods of Load shedding (this is where the power is switched off to share the load). They cannot afford the
expenses of running a generator on a daily basis. Solar panels/gas geysers and gas stoves are the only way to prevent disruption to people's fragile living conditions.

We will be updating you about the whole process as much as possible and hopefully, finally be able to serve and care for the needy elderly people in their community. Every donation big or small will help the care of our older generations.

We are forever grateful for your generosity.
