UPDATE:
Hello everyone! I would first like to thank you all for your donations, for sharing, for reading, for your prayers and all of the above.

This transition has continued to take different shapes/turns and I’ve been trying to stay patient and keep on this pathway of getting back to walking as soon as possible.

I’ve finally been able to return to Physical therapy after battling with insurance to get everything transferred to North Carolina. I’m excited to be able to get the treatment I need to get my muscles developing again as well as regain nerve connections and mobility in both legs. Seeing that I can wiggle some of my toes on my left foot now has been a huge milestone for me! I can’t stress it enough, God is making a way indeed.

I’m reaching out again to check in with an update. I’m still unable to work, paying for storage units in Los Angeles, and trips to move my belongings back home to fully relocate during this time. Between those fees, medical bills, and so forth your help with sharing, and donating is allowing me to navigate this next year to be able to manage and maintain care, and continued finalizations of my move, wheelchair, walker, and all things that are contributing to getting myself back in motion.

I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. To know that there is support while I’m working hard to show up for myself daily, in Physical therapy and navigating finances for stability and care has been the biggest blessing thus far.

I will continue to share updates. Thank you all!

INITIAL POST:
Hello, my name is Lauren Pearson. I am writing this because I am being discharged from my rehabilitation center due to non-compliance from my insurance company, causing me to receive further therapy and treatments from at home/prolonging me from going to recover with family.

I was in an accident where I was hit by two cars. The impact fractured both of my legs, shattering my ankles, femur and tibia bones. My left side has a distal tibia pilon open fracture and the right has comminuted tibia and fibula fractures. The amazing Doctors at UCLA and medical team were able to reconstruct my legs, rebuilding my ankles and lower legs almost entirely.

By discharging me I will be left without living accommodations that can support me in this time. My family is based in Charlotte, NC — living arrangements, as well as flights here are making it difficult for family to get here quickly to assist me in getting home. I am transitioning to Charlotte within the next month and a half to remain until I reach full mobility in 2025, if not sooner. This is all dependent on how I can manage living arrangements/support to remain here to be able to commute to UCLA for my follow up appointments to monitor the progress post operations. Beyond my appointments here, recovery is dependent on accessibility to Physical Therapy, all safety gear to put into family homes, vehicles and etc, so forth. This gofundme is in hopes that I can collect funding for medical fees and living accommodations while still attending appointments before I can leave LA, and travel to get myself and my belongings home to Charlotte.

This is an extremely difficult time, and in knowing that I am non-mobile, I have to rely on this medical system which has very quickly become very expensive. Given these circumstances I have no choice but to reach out to my peers for support. I would appreciate any aid, even if it’s simply to share this post. I truly cannot say thank you enough!

Thank you for your kindness, and understanding. Although I am unable to walk predictably 3-6 months from now, I’m working hard daily to get muscles forming again. I have been cleared to use my wheelchair, but still need assistance. I am slowly but surely getting through this first stage of recovery while also beginning to sort through what navigating getting home looks like/making sure home is equip with all safety and support measures so I can manage as I continue through my recovery with family by my side.

I truly cannot say thank you enough from the bottom of my heart. If you know me, you know that I will never give up. This journey to walking is happening, possible, and with your support it will be much more tangible safely and surely when I make it home. God Bless you all and thank you again!
