Louise Forney is my Aunt, a wife and a mother of kids, and lives in the village of Hamburg, New York. In May 2013 she was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease called Scleroderma. It has affected her esophagus, heart, and especially her lungs. She has been using supplemental oxygen 24/7 for almost 10 years. It has greatly changed her life from being on disability and no longer working as a nurse, and not being able to participate in many activities she used to enjoy. Unfortunately, there is no cure for Scleroderma only treatment options, and she has been through and exhausted all of them. Her only option left is a double lung transplant.
She was accepted into the Cleveland Clinic in October 2022 and was cleared to receive the transplant. She has been traveling back and forth to Cleveland for pretransplant treatment and will be placed on the transplant list at the end of this month, February 2023.
The overwhelming medical expenses are adding up despite having full healthcare coverage. Traveling to and from the Cleveland Clinic has been adding extra expenses from accommodations, food, and gas. After the Transplant she will be hospitalized for 2-3 weeks, and be required to stay in the Cleveland area for another 6-8 weeks. She will be responsible for the cost of staying in Cleveland while also needing to provide upkeep for their home in Hamburg. Louise will have to be on antirejection medication for the rest of her life, and one year after the transplant she will need to return to Cleveland to be tested for infection or rejection.
We are asking for any help anyone can provide to ease the financial burden on her family. All funds raised will be put directly into her medical fund and used for medical expenses. Thank you so much for anything you can provide.
