Help for Haysie: Mark's fight to beat BPDCN
Donation protected
My brother Mark Hay is well know to many in the Echuca, Deniliquin and Yeppoon communities. He has 2 adult sons and a teenage daughter as well as a wonderful partner in Penny. Mark will become a first time grandfather later this year.
After some months of unusual bumps and other symptoms, Mark underwent CT, MRI and PET scans as well as a Bone Marrow Biopsy. As a result, he has received the shocking news that he has an extremely rare and aggressive type of blood cancer called Blastic Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cell Neoplasm (BPDCN). This past week Mark was admitted to hospital in Brisbane and has commenced chemotherapy. His medical team are throwing everything they have at this and have now advised that he will need to stay in Brisbane for the next 12 months - this will also include a Bone Marrow Transplant at the conclusion of chemo.
Due to this Mark and Penny have wound up their business and put their lives on hold. He has a long road ahead of him, but is strong and positive - if anyone can beat this monster, it's him.
A very proud person, it has taken some convincing for Mark to agree to me reaching out for help and he feels quite embarrassed to be in this position. If you are able to support in any way, please know that this will aid his fight on so many levels. As his journey continues, we'll keep you all updated of his progress and any other support he might need.
In advance, thank you for helping my brother. He has so much to live for. Please keep him in your prayers and send all of the positive vibes you possibly can xx
