On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, Mark was scheduled for a 3-4 hour mitral-valve repair surgery by laparoscopy. With continuous complications in the surgery, this was a 10-hour procedure with a failed laparoscopy followed by hopeful open-heart surgery. Mark was under anesthesia for 18 hours and has not woken up since. He was sent by helicopter to a more advanced hospital to provide him with better aftercare. Doctors later revealed that his kidneys were failing, and he had a deficiency of blood flow and oxygen to the brain for a prolonged period of time during the procedure. This deficiency caused seizures and a stroke in his parietal lobe. Mark's wife, Erika, is taking off work for a prolonged period to spend as much time as she can with him throughout this hopeful recovery. Please support Mark and his family through this traumatic experience, as the family is receiving no income, and large medical bills are expected for the continuous testing and procedures.
