Hi family and friends. Anahi and I rescued a beautiful baby boy from the streets of Miami a month ago. We were excited to have a new dog with our family and gave him the name of Josh. We immediately got him medical treatment for parasites he picked up from the streets and vaccines to make sure he would remain healthy and live a long happy life with us.
He gradually got acclimated to the family and every day was an adventure for him. He bonded with our dog Khloe and they were becoming good friends. We walked him and Khloe twice a day together and those two dogs strengthened Anahi and I relationship.
Josh was such a good boy and a fast learner. He loved any toy you gave him (see the picture above) and his favorite foods were chicken and cucumbers. He loved walks at 6 AM by the water and 530 PM with his momma, pappa and sister Khloe. He was passionate about playing and also a deep sleeper.
Unfortunately, this past Friday morning tragedy struck our loving family. I decided to walk the two dogs by myself before work while Anahi was making lunch. I was picking up Josh’s feces and I suddenly lost control of Josh's leash. He is a fast runner from his days on the streets and we were in a foot race. I made the split-second decision to drop Khloe's leash to chase after Josh. I was still worried about Khloe being alone so I looked back to be sure she was OK before I would scoop up Josh from the ground. Tragically when I turned my head forward Josh was right in front of me, and I stepped on him causing serious injuries.
We raced josh to our local vet to stabilize him incurring almost $1000 in veterinary costs. Then once stable we made the 45-minute drive to the trauma facility. He was stable and still breathing on his own when we arrived at the trauma facility. They took him immediately and billed us $5,000 for an estimated 2 days of trauma care.
At 11 PM we received a call from the doctor saying Josh was stable and breathing on his own still. That felt amazing. Anahi and I felt we had a chance to have josh back and a live loving life with us. Unfortunately, at 7 AM Saturday I got a call saying that Josh was no longer breathing on his own and that his health was not good. The hospital was manually pumping oxygen into his little body every 6 seconds or so. The costs were piling up fast as they dedicated a nurse to this task and focused a doctor on him the entire day.
Later that Saturday evening after spending all day at the hospital; the hospital wanted us to either cut the oxygen and Josh's life short or ventilate him. They couldn’t continue to dedicate a nurse to him to manually pump oxygen. We went over the risks and ordered a CT scan for $1000 to ensure the next decision we made was the right one. We got the CT scan back 3 hours later and reviewed it with the doctor. It showed that his brain had massive swelling and from our knowledge, he needed time to give his brain a chance to heal and his body a chance to fight this. So, we were forced between ending Josh's life there or committing to additional costs of $15,000 to save our baby boy.
Anahi and I went for it, knowing the risks. You may know we love animals, and our dogs are our babies, our life. So, we had no other choice but to put Josh on a ventilator. We went home after about 8 hours at the hospital. That evening we got a call that everything was going well.
At 130 AM today(Sunday) we got a call saying Josh was near death; his blood pressure dropped to a point where his vital organs were shutting down. We rushed to the hospital and got there around 200 AM. We went over all the variables and options again with the doctor and were left with no other choice but to put Josh to sleep.
We spilled our hearts out to Josh one final time.
We slept about 2 hours today and left empty with sad broken hearts. This baby boy, Josh, was everything and now he will be in our memories forever. We love you Joshee.
Friends and family, please give us a hand financially as this tragedy has unexpectedly set us back emotionally and financially; as it would most anybody. We did absolutely everything we possibly could to save our rescue doggy josh. We greatly appreciate all your much-needed help.
