I am due to run, or rather at my age, plod the “Round Reading” ultra marathon on 27 July 2024. As the title indicates it is a 50k/31 mile loop all the way around the town of Reading in Berkshire. I am running to try and raise funds to support our youngest son, Matt, with ongoing medical costs that unfortunately we simply do not have the financial capability to fund ourselves.

We are politely and ashamedly asking for your kind help of a donation if you are able.

I provide Matt’s background story below and like any proud parents we are praying that he can find a way to make a healthy recovery from this awful, debilitating disease.

As many would know this is not how we are as a family or would even have the temerity to ask but if out of the very kindness of your heart you were able to find a way to help, we would be most grateful.

My name is Matt. I am 32 years old and I've spent the last 7 years of my life in pain suffering from Chronic Lyme Disease and around 8 co-infections.

I spent the first 18 months in and out of hospitals bouncing between doctors, treatments and procedures with no diagnosis.

I proceeded on my own accord to obtain tests from 4 different laboratories overseas and each confirmed I had contracted Lyme Disease. Sadly the NHS didn't recognise it and only diagnosed my symptoms such as arthritis, chronic fatigue and migraines. There is no help from the NHS.

I have spent the last 7 years hidden away suffering with many symptoms, some of the worse being: brain fog, memory issues, chronic fatigue, 24/7 headaches, bone and joint pains throughout my entire body and mental health issues.

I have found the strength and new determination to better my circumstances. I don't want to be in pain or stuck in a bedroom anymore. I want normality back and I am determined to get my life back or as close to it as possible.

I have spent a long time researching potential treatment that meets with my ideals and that has credibility. I found Dr Nicolaus who has an extremely impressive background in tick-borne diseases, co-infections and associated health conditions and has a world renowned reputation of helping sufferers of Lyme Disease.

I recently had a lengthy consultation with Dr Nicolaus and I provided him with my background and my previous test results. I was pleased with the proposed treatment strategy involving many different drugs which I could only obtain from abroad as the UK would not sanction my treatment. The consultation was costly and I then started treatment thinking I could afford it myself but I was faced with further rising costs as the treatment protocol was adapted to improving my needs. Then I was required to be tested more regularly with 19 different tests together with the need for more medication and online meetings with the doctor. Sadly this has now become beyond my financial capability.

I do not want to give up on my treatment but reluctantly I have come to a point whilst it hurts my pride and I never wanted to do this, I have no other choice but to reach out for help.

The treatments will take at least 6-9 months, possibly even longer, and every 2 months I will have various tests and then a follow up appointment with my doctor to check my progress and see if the treatment needs adapting at all.
